The Bernard Osher Foundation’s Commitment to Education
Businessman and community leader Bernard Osher founded the Bernard Osher Foundation for the primary purpose of supporting education and the arts. Over the years, the foundation has been awarding financial endowments to numerous universities around the United States.Recently, the foundation awarded the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at California State University Channel Islands (OLLI-CSUCI) a total of $1 million. The proceeds will be used to help OLLI-CSUCI carry out its mission of providing high quality university-level education to eager learners over 50 years old.After its establishment in 2004, OLLI-CSUCI received an annual financial support of $100,000 from the foundation. This fall, OLLI-CSUCI will receive $50,000 from the Bernard Osher Foundation to help sustain its daily operations until the endowment is released in the summer of 2009.The Bernard Osher Foundation’s funding for numerous post-secondary scholarships across the United States epitomizes its founder’s mission of helping improve one’s life by providing support for quality education and the arts.Bernard Osher’s dream is slowly becoming a reality as more and more people benefit from his foundation’s programs which include the Osher Scholars and Fellows Program, Osher Reentry Program, and the Local Arts and Educational Program.If people follow Bernard Osher’s passion and commitment, the vision of a better, brighter future for our country’s children will someday become a reality.
