MPHO Is Compared to UK Destinys Child
Make way for the British Beyonce from Brixton. That’s right new singing sensation Mpho is being labelled as the UK’s answer to the star from Destiny’s Child.
“There are worse people to be compared to when you’re starting out,” laughs the 29-year-old, whose debut single Box N Locks was released this week.
Mpho has become the first-ever artist to be allowed to sample the classic ’80s song Echo Beach, by Martha and The Muffins.
And after being signed by Parlophone home to Coldplay, Kylie Minogue and Lily Allen the future looks bright for the bubbly singer songwriter.
MPHO (pronounced mmm-poh) has unleashed her debut single “Box ‘N Locks” and people are starting to pay attention. Her sublime cover of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” helped to give her plenty of street cred to be considered one of the most exciting new acts of 2009.
People are clamoring to find buy MPHO music. I’ve received a dozen emails over the past week from new MPHO fans wondering when her music will be released in the States. Sit tight. There are no plans yet, but the good stuff will be coming.
To feed your appetite, I found a very rare remix of “Box ‘N Locks” that was featured on a radio mix show over in the U.K. It was produced by Ill Blue who adds a banging, big club beat to the original. Perfect for your Saturday night.
